Tammy Mitchell
My name is Tammy Mitchell Mowat, and I am a parents’ rights advocate.
My journey began out of a deep love for children, families, and the values that have guided my life for over three decades.
Today, I find myself in a position I never anticipated—a co-defendant in a Supreme Court of British Columbia lawsuit:
Tyson Cook (self-described “drag activist”, Freida Whales) – Plaintiff
and
Action4Canada Inc., Graeme Flannigan, Tammy Mitchell, Tori Olason, and Person A - Defendants
I never wanted to be controversial.
I stand up for what I believe in, even when it comes at a great personal cost. I share it with you now in the hope that you will consider supporting my legal defense fund as I continue to fight for the rights of parents and the protection of children.
The Lawsuit: A Battle for Free Expression and Parental Rights
In January 2023, I received an email through Action4Canada’s mailing list. The email alerted parents in Kelowna, BC, that a drag queen performer named Freida Whales was scheduled to read to children at a public library.
Concerned about the inappropriateness of this event for minors, I shared Action4Canada’s information in a private Facebook group encouraging others to voice their concerns to library staff and city councillors and ask that the event be cancelled.
The Action4Canada webpage about this event is titled “Contact the Kelowna Mayor, City Council and RCMP and demand they cancel Freida Whales’ Jan 28th Library Drag Event!”
My intent was simple: to inform parents and allow them to make decisions about what their children are exposed to.
Sharing this information verbatim has now led to my being named as a co-defendant in a lawsuit filed by Tyson Cook, also known as Freida Whales.
In my view, this lawsuit has multiple aims. Its primary goal is to silence parents’ rights advocates and those who are committed to shielding children, youth and minors from cultural corruption.
As advocates, we must be able to communicate valuable ideas and information to parents without facing legal action from those who find it upsetting or offensive.
It's imperative that we be able to balance free expression with protecting minors, while avoiding retaliation from parties who dislike or disagree with our message.
Why I Speak Out: A Personal Journey
I am a lesbian, a fact I mention only for context.
My wife and I have been together for over 33 years, and we are proud parents of four adult children and grandparents to 13 grandchildren.
For most of my life, I have been part of the lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) community, one that has always valued allowing children to grow up and discover who they are without interference.
In 2022, however, I noticed a troubling shift. Children were being introduced to age-inappropriate sexual content and the idea that they could be “born in the wrong body.”
I could not reconcile this ideology, promoted by groups describing themselves as 2SLGBTQIA+ (and its many variations), with our values or our experience as members of the LGB community.
I felt compelled to speak out, not out of malice, but out of genuine concern for the well-being of children and families.
I came to understand that there is a distinction between the LGB community we have always known and been a part of, and the well-funded, radical trans-queer activists.
The two are not the same, and I felt it was important to be a voice from within the LGB community to help parents, caregivers, and society at large understand this fundamental difference.
A Call for Support
This lawsuit is not just about me—it is about the rights of parents to advocate for their children and the ability of all citizens to express their concerns without fear of legal retaliation.
It is about protecting children from content that may not be suitable for their age and ensuring that parents have the tools and information they need to make informed decisions.
I humbly ask for your financial support as I navigate this legal battle.
Your donation to my legal fund will help ensure that my voice—and the voices of countless other parents and advocates—are not silenced.
Together, we can stand up for what is right and protect the innocence of future generations.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Your support means more than words can express.
With gratitude,
Tammy Mitchell Mowat
